"Major" Breen Praises Men

Says Last Lot of Selectives Was the Best Ever Sent From Hackensack

Camp Dix, N.J., May 29, 1918.
Editor Evening Record.

Dear Friend:---Having Arrived in Camp Dix, I will tell you that the men that came down in my charge were the best selected men that left Hackensack, and there was no trouble at all through the whole trip down here.We arrived at Jersey City at 10:35 a.m. and did not leave Jersey City until 11:10 a.m. We had to wait for the Englewood boys and the Paterson boys, and we had 10 carloads of drafted men going enroute to Camp Dix

Our first stop on the Pennsylvania Railroad was Market Street, Newark, and six military police came on the train to keep order all the way down. We made a few stops along the line on account of other fast trains enroute to Philadelphia. We arrived at Camp Dix at 2:10 p.m. and there was all kinds of boys from Newark here before us. But I was used to that as it was an old occurance in the army for me.

We received a very good supper, the menu consisting of beefsteak, onions, mashed potatoes, tea, bread, and butter. All the boys had very sore arms this morning, but nobody was sick. They received their first instructions as soldiers this morning, and they were very good for the first time.

The boys would like to have the Even!ng Record down here. All the boys are in Company 18, 153 Depot Brigade, 5th Battalion, Camp Dix.

Friends and relatives should address all letters to this address.

Yours Sincerely,
Private Eugene Breen
